A Valedictory MEXCOM, the first of its kind in NAPIMS was held in honour of the outgoing members of NAPIMS Top Management. The session was held specifically in the words of Dr. M. K. Baru (who incidentally was also re- deployed to Corporate Headquarters as the GGM NNPC Services) “To celebrate the zeal, professionalism and worthy stewardship, especially for those leaving us; while for those taking up other assignments, the forum provided an opportunity to ask for increased guidance from God; For those left behind, it is time to collectively pray that we will be able to steer this ship aright”.

With this thought provoking word, Dr. Baru set the pace for the emotion – laden event that evoked a lot of mixed feelings from both NAPIMS Management and Staff. During the Valedictory Mexcom, Dr. Baru thanked the former GM Operations, Engr C. N. Chukwuka for having provided a good leadership base that supported the Division and NAPIMS in achieving its goals. He further commended Mr. Chukwuka’s mentoring skills and professionalism displayed during his tenure as the GM Operations. For Engr A. K. Adeyemo, Dr. Baru noted his inner strength, wisdom, intelligence, strong leadership skills and courage with which he had handled all the existing PSC agreements and charted a course for the upcoming PSC companies.

Dr, Baru was also full of praise for Mr. E. C. Nwabufor, the outgoing GM Materials Management on the successful handling of the challenges encountered by the Division during his tenure. Overall, the outgoing GGM said it was heart lifting to note that the General Managers were retired without having blemish on their careers; instead, they have left behind a legacy that cannot be underrated.

Dr. Baru recalled that at the time his team came on board, the team had the task of strengthening the processes and procedures, while ensuring that transparency was a key tool in stabilizing the business. All these to a large extent, he said, the team was able to achieve. He therefore called on the staff whom he addressed as “agents of continuity” to give more support to the incoming management team in the interest of all.

Responding to the speeches made by Dr. Baru and others, Mr. Chukwuka implored the staff not to be discouraged, but aim at working hard; because according to him; “hardwork has a lot of reward”. Engr Adeyemo described NAPIMS’ staff as “simply the best” in the industry, he further enjoined them to support the incoming Management Team while sustaining the existing team effort and spirit.
