It was a night of honour and recognition for those who have distinguished themselves in service delivery in the Nigerian oil and gas sector as the Petroleum Technology Association (PETAN) rolled out the drums for them in the 2009 Achievement Awards.

PETAN is a non-profit organization whose members are Nigerian Oil Service Companies operating in the Upstream and Downstream Technical Services Sectors of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry. Top on its agenda is to promote the domestication of petroleum technology by striving for fair and extensive patronage of the efficient and competitive indigenous Nigerian Oilfield Service companies.

Speaking during the occasion, the Chairman of PETAN Mr. Shawley Coker noted that the Association is conscious of its role in reviving the Nigerian economy as a technoeconomic group, using the Local Content drive as the hub of the association’s strategies.

The occasion had in attendance the Group Executive Director, Exploration and Production Mr. Philip Chukwu, the representative of the Governor of Lagos State and the representative of the Chairman, House Committee on Petroleum (Upstream). Mr. Chukwu acknowledged the achievements recorded by PETAN as a body and also siezed the opportunity to congratulate the companies that won the 2009 Awards declaring that the honours were well deserved. He advised the body not to rest on its oars in its effort to domesticate petroleum technology.

The Managing Director of ExxonMobil Mr. Mark Ward, on behalf o this Company received the award for 2009 Local Content Operator. Mr. Ward expressed his deep appreciation for the recognition and pledged his organization’s continued support for the local content initiative. Notable amongst indigenous Companies that received 2009 Client Recognition Awards were Oilserv Limited, Hobark International, and Afren Nigeria Limited.

While First Bank of Nigeria received award for its funding support to local Contractors. The Founder of PETAN, Chief Ralph Ekezie traced the humble beginning of the Association and lofty heights it has attained and appreciated the Almighty God, the Founding Fathers, the NNPC and the Operators not forgetting all its members. The Association seized the opportunity of the event to present its newly elected executive members to the audience.
