The collaborative effort between Prime Atlantic Global Safety and Falck Nutec has scored a high point in the Nigerian Content Drive with its commissioning of a world class Safety Training Centre at Ipara, Ogun State.

This is not the first time that Prime Atlantic is Partnering with Foreign Companies in order to build local capacity. In December, 2008, NNPC/Chevron JV in conjunction with Prime Atlantic/Cegelec commissioned a state of the art training school at Ogere also in Ogun State which has been producing quality and professional manpower to boost the available skills Falck Prime Atlantic Limited is a Joint Venture company between Prime Atlantic Global Safety, an indigenous company and Falck Nutec, a Nordic based Oil and Gas training Organization.

The Company was established in the year 2008 for the purpose of providing Safety Training and Consultancy Services for the Oil and Gas Industry, Marine as well as the Public Sector.

The training centre is fully accredited by the Offshore Petroleum Industry Training Organization (OPITO) - the body responsible, on behalf of the Offshore Oil and Gas Industry, for ensuring the quality, contents and execution of key safety and emergency training. Some of the courses offered include;

1) Basic Offshore Safety

2) Induction and Emergency Training

3) Health Care and Safety

4) Emergency Response Training

5) Medical and First Aid Response Training

6) Basic Fire Fighting Training Management for Major Emergencies Training

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, H. Odein Ajumogobia (SAN) did the commissioning of the Ultra modern safety training facility. He remarked that Safety Training in the Oil and Gas Industry is not negotiable. He observed that the recent global meltdown has made many companies to cut down their training budgets, he however reiterated the determination of the Federal Government to ensure adequate safety training for stakeholders in the nation’s most strategic industry.

Consequently, the Minister stated that he issued a directive to all Exploration and Production Companies, Service Companies and Marketers to ensure that any person engaged in carrying out activities in the Offshore and Swamp region of the Oil and Gas Industry, undergoes relevant safety training before embarking on such duties. According to him, “With the regulation in place, I do not see why the facility should not be fully utilized all year around.

I will direct DPR to request that Falck Prime Atlantic submits the numbers of trainees that are trained monthly by various companies and this will be one of our yard sticks to measure compliance with the regulation”. Ajumogobia said that the regulation would help in ensuring the maintenance of high Health, Safety and Environment standards and practice which involve a lot of care, effort and considerable resources. He added, “But the returns in terms of unfettered productivity, morale of the work force and social capital to our dear nation make it worthwhile”. “I am glad to hear that Offshore workers from Cameroun, Gabon, Ghana and Mauritania, have been trained here and expatriates who work in the Nigerian Offshore Industry who would have normally gone abroad to train, are now being trained in the facility.


This is one of the dividends of our Local Content Initiatives and I encourage other indigenous companies to emulate this laudable achievement” he added. The Group Executive Director, Exploration and Production Mr. Philip Chukwu was ably represented at the ceremony by the GGM, Nigerian Content Division Mr. Ernest Nwapa. He tasked the Multinational Oil giants and other stakeholders in the Industry on adequate patronage of the facility. He stated that the landmark ceremony was a proof that the Local Content Drive of the Federal Government was yielding positive results.

On the other hand, the Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel was applauded for his support towards achieving such a gigantic milestone that has projected the State to the International Communities. Otunba Daniel reiterated his resolve to transform the State into an industrial base that will attract both foreign and dependable local investors. On a final note, the Managing Director of the Company, Ayo Otuyalo expressed his profound gratitude to all the participants who, despite their busy schedules on a Monday morning, were able to honour the invitation and their commitment towards the realization of the vision.
